My apologies.....we've made changes this again.

Thursday

  • Spelling Test

Friday

  • ELA  Selection and Weekly Tests
  • Math and ELA 5-a-day quizzes rotate each week
  • SS Weeklies/Newspaper Test (only when we are using the newspapers - which we aren't always doing)

**All other tests will occur when they naturally come up in our curriculum and studies.

THIS WEEK IN:

1/14 - 1/1/18

LANGUAGE ARTS - Unit 3 Assessment

  • No spelling or grammar
  • We're working on fictional narratives and beginning to prepare for our writing prompt
  • We'll start gathering information for our research paper soon! Our focus will be a state - so we'll use both ELA and SS time to work on this.

MATH - We've started Chapter 6 - fractions!

SOCIAL STUDIES

  • Students are presenting their Explorer flip books in a gallery style event. We'll finish up then move on to the 13 colonies.

Test Retake Procedures

Students with test scores that are 67% or lower (D or F) should always retake the test. Any other test scores that students are unhappy or dissatisfied with, can be retaken as well. It is,however, their responsibility to come see me  WITH THE TEST IN HAND so we can start the retake letter and discuss the retake plan. Students then need to take the test and letter home to have a parent sign it. If you are signing a retake letter for your child, please take the time to  read over the letter so you are reminded of the process and what is required. Students who do not follow the process and meet deadlines may not be allowed to retake the test.

Below are the steps outlined on the retake letter:

 1. Complete all missing assignments on the unit/story.

 2. Complete corrections on the first test, which include a short response that includes an explanation of what the answer should have been.

 3. Select three items from our "How to Study" list and commit to spending a minimum of 20 minutes each night for the four nights prior to the retake.

 4.  Provide evidence that you have completed items 1 through 3 prior to the retake. (In many stances, the evidence required is a parent signature. If students do not have this, they may not retake the test.)

VERY IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER!

  • Students need to see me about a retake within a week of getting the test back. The retake process then needs to happen within a week. That means that the process to retake should happen within two weeks of getting the test returned.
  • If a study guide or test review is given and students fail to complete the assignment prior to the test, they may not retake the test. It is important that they take responsibility for their education and make an effort the first time around. If they do and still do poorly, then I will do whatever I can to help them identify where they struggled and to make improvements.

** Progress reports come home EVERY OTHER WEEK. Please check school wise frequently to keep track of grades.
